Scuderia Southwest: Not Your Average Cars and Coffee

A Yellow Porsche Drives Off as the Event Comes To A Close

As the younger generation starts to have time to enjoy the finer things in life, they come to appreciate communities and routine. While Cars and Coffee events are not new, they are often the subject of jokes for being filled with run-of-the-mill Honda Civics and even better, the dad-in-jorts Corvettes. Enter Scuderia Southwest, southwest in country geography, but far north for Phoenix residents. The question is: is it worth the drive out?

Auto Portfolio

Scuderia Southwest prides itself on offering a diverse selection of cars for everyone to enjoy. Everything from vintage racers to your Ferrari red Ferrari’s. Each event is jam packed with poster worthy vehicles. As we know, “great” cars are subjective with each age range and background.

A good car meet for younger crowds has the occasional hypercar. A good car meet for the older crowds involves an original 60’s era muscle car. With the younglings distaste for anything that reminds them of their parents and the older generation’s eye roll for anything loud and obnoxious, how does an event organizer find the balance?

Rarity

Nothing quite beats the feeling of seeing something truly rare. Not a C7 Corvette metallic red type of rare (much to the chagrin of their owners), but a true type of rarity. No matter what the vehicle happens to be, there is something unique about seeing a 1 of 100 Dodge Viper GTS-R Final Edition ACR just parked in a normal parking spot. No fences… no ropes… no sign to tell you how rare it is. Just you, history, and a fresh beverage of your choice at eight in the morning. The Scuderia Southwest organizers have molded a respectful and inquisitive community, one that talks shop, but already knows not to touch the paint. A group filled with aspiring photographers who know it is a privilege to witness such greatness that they don’t ask people to move for the photo, they wait their turn and let people enjoy the show. This type of respect and curiosity is what makes this event that much more special.

A Ferrari Enzo Sits Menacingly

When your event contains cars only seen on bedroom posters, when the exhaust notes have only been heard while using it in Forza or Grand Turismo, when there are no red velvet ropes letting you know that you are poor and cannot afford this car, the event just becomes that much more memorable. It is the reason why so many teens and early 20-something’s get out of bed at 6:30am every first Saturday of the month.

Equilibrium

Any other event would be satisfied at the rarity of the cars attending and be satisfied, but for Scuderia Southwest, they do not sit idle on their laurels. You see, they do not allow walk-ons, meaning, you actually need to register your vehicle before the meet. Not to mention, this registration is not a guarantee as they vet every single application for cars to appear in their gatherings.

And they are strict about it too as I have seen multiple exotics be turned away at the entrance. Not just the occasional lost grandma trying to find the Safeway nearby, but actual cars with owners who thought they could roll right in. Scuderia Southwest prides itself in diversity and rarity and it is not going to let that be a thing of its past.

Onlookers Enjoy the Classics

For a city as diverse as Phoenix, it is important to cater to all genres of motorsport and automobiles. This application process that Scuderia Southwest forces ensures that spectators will get to see everything from a 60’s Corvette Stingray to a 2021 Lamborghini Huracan STO in Blue Cepheus.
